Canadian Insurance Card

US Citizen’s wishing to travel to Canada by car will need a valid US driver’s license and will need to obtain a Canadian Insurance Card from their auto insurer in advance of their trip to provide proof of auto insurance. US drivers will need to carry this with them before entering Canada.

The Canadian Insurance card will have information regarding your vehicle and your insurance policy. Here is a photo of what the Canadian Insurance Card looks like:

If you are a GEICO customer for example here are the steps to obtain a Canadian Insurance Card:

the easiest way to request a card is to request one online using their Policy Service Center. If you haven’t registered for their online services yet, you will have to sign up. Once you sign in, go to the Policy Documents section of the site to request a card. Please allow at least 5 to 7 business days for mail delivery. If you would rather speak to a customer service representative, please call 1-800-861-8380.
